Village Tour – What you will see
Discover the Hidden Heart of Cyprus: Traditional Villages, Coastal History & the Divided Line
Your journey begins as we pass through the vibrant holiday resorts of Pernera, Protaras and Ayia Napa, before leaving the coastline behind and heading toward the real, authentic Cyprus—a world of deep history, rich traditions, and stories that shaped the island
Our first stop brings you to the impressive Ayia Napa Marina, a sleek new development that contrasts beautifully with your next destination: one of the oldest coastal churches on the island. Here, overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean, you’ll hear fascinating tales of pirates, ancient seafarers, and the legends that once echoed along this dramatic shoreline.
As we continue, you’ll see fish farms and traditional Cypriot fishing boats resting peacefully in a charming estuary, a glimpse into daily island life that many visitors never experience.
A Journey through Villages, Culture & Cypriot Traditions
The tour then takes you inland, weaving through the picturesque villages of
Liopetri, Avgorou, Vrysoulles, Frenaros and Deryneia.
Here, you’ll discover:
- How local produce—including the world-famous Cyprus potato—has shaped village life
- The vibrant festivals celebrated throughout the year
- The customs, crafts, and culture that continue to thrive across generations
- Neighbouring resorts, Sculpture park.
- Traditions and culture
As we explore, you’ll also come across historic churches and memorials linked to Cyprus’s turbulent mid-20th-century history—the years leading up to the dramatic events of 1974.
Experience the Divided Line—A Chapter of Living History
Many visitors are unaware that Cyprus has been partitioned since 1974, a defining moment that forever changed the island’s political landscape. Today, the Divided Line still stretches across Cyprus, monitored year-round by the military.
Our tour brings you right to this historic boundary where you will:
One of the most moving stops is Achna Village, a community abandoned during the events of 1974. Unlike the well-known Varosha, Achna remains largely forgotten—its empty homes, silent streets, and neglected cemetery offer a powerful reflection on the impact of conflict. The UN still oversees this region, with helicopters patrolling daily.
A Viewpoint Like No Other
Leaving the Divided Line, The Original Red Bus takes you to one of the closest viewpoints on the south side overlooking the haunting remains of Varosha, the abandoned holiday resort once loved by the rich and famous. From here, you’ll gaze across a coastline frozen in time—an unforgettable sight and one of the island’s most striking contrasts between past and present.
